Preparing for print

Within the industry there are now so many file formats and working platforms, we understand that it can often be difficult to keep up with developments.

Listed below are some simple guidelines to help your job run smoothly. We hope they help.
Ensure that the document size is the same as the finished trimmed size.

  • Allow page elements which 'bleed' to overhang the page boundary by approx. 3mm.
  • Include all support files (imported images, graphics, etc.) along with the main document. Try to avoid embedding support files inside the document as they can sometimes cause problems.
  • Jobs should, wherever possible, be supplied on individual pages. You do not have to impose jobs yourself because we have professional imposition software in our production studio.
  • Supply images and graphics in CMYK for full colour print work, not RGB.
  • Check that the document fits the cutting forme if a special cutter is required.
  • Create PDF files to include bleed (3mm), embed all fonts save as PRESS OPTIMISED, not screen optimised.
  • We accept files via FTP – if you have not sent this way before ask your account handler for details – or email or on all popular types of media. All major publishing software can be handled (and some minor ones as well). These include Quark Xpress, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Pagemaker, Adobe InDesign, Macromedia Freehand, MS Publisher, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Powerpoint and Corel Draw.
  • Supply an up-to-date print-out of the job, so that we can proof check our prints against it.

We appreciate each job has its own individual style and format, so if you have any enquiries regarding images or imposition please contact our client services department.
